According to a Reuters report published Wednesday, the new browser will leverage AI to redefine the web browsing experience — similar to recent innovations like Perplexity’s Comet and The Browser Company’s Arc-powered Dia. Instead of simply redirecting users to websites, the browser is expected to keep more interactions within ChatGPT itself.
A standout feature may include integration with OpenAI’s web-browsing agent, Operator, which could play a central role in streamlining how users access information online.
OpenAI has been exploring the idea of building a Chrome competitor since 2024, as reported by The Information. The goal, similar to Perplexity’s, is believed to be gaining direct access to user behavior and data while providing a unique browsing experience free from Google’s ecosystem.
