Srinagar, Mar 13: Mutahida Ulema Council (MUC) on Wednesday withdrew the shutdown call issued for Saturday in view of the request made by the Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, who heads the Mutahida Ulema Council (MUC), said that the MUC has withdrawn Saturday’s shutdown call.
“In view of the request made by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to revoke the shutdown called on Saturday, we have decided to withdraw the shutdown call. There will be no shutdown on Saturday,” said Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam.
Earlier in the day, Mirwaiz had requested the MUC to withdraw the shutdown call for Saturday.
“Express my deep gratitude to Mutahida Ulema council J&K the Traders fraternity and the civil society members for their concern and support, I however request Mutahida Ulema council to take back the hartal call for 16th March in this regard,” Mirwaiz tweeted on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the MUC had appealed people to observe a complete shutdown on 16th March (Saturday) in view of summoning of Mirwaiz to New Delhi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
On March 9, the NIA sent a notice to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq asking him to appear in person before the agency’s court in New Delhi on March 11 in connection with a case filed into alleged funding of militancy in Kashmir.
The Mirwaiz, however, refused to fly to New Delhi citing “hostile security atmosphere”.
