New Delhi, Apr 10: Late actor Om Puri’s first wife, Seema Kapoor, has made a heartbreaking revelation about their marriage in a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan. Seema, who is the sister of actor Annu Kapoor, said Om Puri cheated on her while she was pregnant, and that the betrayal left her shattered.
She shared that the veteran actor began an affair with journalist Nandita Puri while shooting for City of Joy. “Everything was fine after our marriage, but that movie turned my life upside down,” Seema recalled. Close friends, including Renu Saluja and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, were aware of the affair but dismissed it as a phase.
Seema found out about the affair when she was in Delhi. “He called and told me he was seeing someone else. I was pregnant, and I wanted to save our marriage,” she said. Upon returning to Mumbai, she found love letters in his belongings. “I was shattered. Despite everything, I didn’t want to divorce him. I wanted to mend things,” she added.
However, emotional stress and frequent conflicts involving Nandita led Seema to leave Om Puri’s house while she was three months pregnant. “Puri sahab would drink too much, and Nandita would create drama. One night, I walked away,” she said.
After she tragically lost the baby, Om Puri sent ₹25,000 through his secretary, which Seema refused. “Forget consoling me. He sent money. I turned it down. His secretary said, ‘Your ego is destroying you.’ But it wasn’t ego—it was self-respect,” she emphasized.
Seema received ₹6 lakh as alimony but never forgave the emotional trauma. Om Puri later married Nandita Puri in 1993, and they had a son, Ishaan. Before his death in 2017, Seema revealed that Om Puri called her to apologize for the past.
