Jammu : Northern Railway, Jammu Division, conducted a special ticket checking drive on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar rail section.

The drive was carried out in view of disrupted air and road traffic due to snowfall in the Jammu division and the increased number of passengers on the rail route.

Teams were deployed under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).

Ticket checking staff were positioned at entry and exit points of all major stations, including Katra, Sangaldan, Banihal, Srinagar, and Budgam.

Up and down trains were also checked to ensure action against ticketless travellers and to prevent revenue leakage, officials said.

During the drive, action was taken against 316 ticketless passengers, and fines totaling approximately Rs 4.15 lakh were collected. The staff also assisted passengers stranded due to adverse weather and ensured that those with valid tickets reached their destinations safely.

Singhal said the campaign was aimed at providing a comfortable travel experience for ticketed passengers while taking action against those travelling without tickets, particularly during periods of heavy passenger load.

“In such challenging circumstances, when road and air travel are affected, the railway becomes a symbol of reliability for passengers. Special checking drives are conducted periodically to ensure compliance with railway rules,” he added.

Officials said the drive is part of ongoing measures to enhance passenger amenities, prevent revenue loss, and maintain orderly travel on the Jammu-Srinagar rail section..
