Srinagar: In a major opportunity for aspiring footballers in Jammu and Kashmir, NorthEast United FC will conduct open selection trials in Srinagar on May 18 in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.

The trials, scheduled to be held at the TRC Synthetic Turf Ground from 11 am onwards, mark the first time that an Indian Super League (ISL) club is organising open football selection trials in Jammu and Kashmir.

The initiative is being seen as a major boost for football in the Valley, providing young players a direct platform to showcase their talent before professional scouts and coaches from one of India’s top football clubs.

According to the organisers, the trials will be conducted in two age categories — Under-21 for players born in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and Under-18 for players born in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Sports enthusiasts and local football circles have welcomed the move, saying it could open new pathways for talented players from the region who have long awaited exposure at the national level.

Officials associated with the programme said the collaboration aims to identify promising football talent from Jammu and Kashmir and connect them with professional training and competitive opportunities in Indian football.

The announcement has already generated excitement among young footballers across the Valley, many of whom see the trials as a rare chance to take a step closer towards professional football.

Participants have been advised to report at the venue on time with necessary documents and sports gear.
