New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard (NSG) through video conferencing. The event was attended by the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the Director General of NSG, Directors General of Central Armed Police Forces, and Directors General of Police of various states.
Addressing the programme, the Union Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant work has been done over the last six years to generate various types of data and collect it in a systematic manner. He said that NIDMS will prove extremely important in the coming days for investigating all types of terrorist incidents in the country and analysing their various aspects. He added that NIDMS will become the next-generation security shield against terrorism.
The Home Minister said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has generated various types of data in recent years, but until now these were in silos. Efforts are now being made to connect all data sources and develop advanced Artificial Intelligence-based software for analysis. He said that the launch of NIDMS will accelerate this process and mark an important milestone in strengthening the country’s fight against terrorism.
He said that with the launch of NIDMS, a two-way, comprehensive, integrated and online data platform will become available to the National Investigation Agency, Anti-Terrorism Squads across the country, state police forces and all Central Armed Police Forces. Data related to any explosion or IED incident occurring at any location can be entered into the system, enabling investigators across states to obtain necessary guidance. He said that NIDMS will be extremely useful in investigating terrorist activities, understanding explosion trends and formulating effective counter-terror strategies.
The Home Minister said that the NSG database contains data related to all bomb explosions from 1999 onwards. Through NIDMS, this data will now be made available to police forces and relevant agencies across the country. The platform will enable accurate analysis of explosion patterns, modus operandi and types of explosives used. It will also help establish inter-linkages between incidents based on circuit methods and operational techniques, and provide insights into overall trends.
He said that NIDMS is a secure national digital platform that will strengthen the collection, standardisation, integration and secure sharing of IED-related data. It will serve as a single-click access window for investigation agencies and anti-terror organisations to access data scattered across different case files. This will benefit the internal security system of the country in three major ways.
The Home Minister said that under the concept of “One Nation, One Data Repository,” data scattered across departments will become available to every police unit as a national asset. This will significantly improve the speed and quality of prosecution and enable scientific, evidence-based investigations. Better coordination among agencies will also be achieved, ensuring the right information reaches the right place at the right time.
He said that the NSG is a strong pillar of India’s internal security. Owing to the valour, specialised skills and dedication of its personnel, citizens are able to live in safety. Whether it is rapid response to terror attacks, anti-hijacking operations, bomb disposal, or other critical challenges, the NSG has consistently delivered outstanding results.
The Home Minister said that the NSG is a world-class, zero-error force established in 1984. Since its inception, it has continuously analysed terrorist incidents worldwide and remained fully prepared to handle all types of threats. Its responsibilities include counter-terror operations, anti-aircraft hijacking missions, advanced bomb disposal systems and now, sharing its expertise through a national data platform. NSG personnel have been honoured with numerous gallantry awards, including three Ashok Chakras, two Kirti Chakras, three Shaurya Chakras, 10 Police Medals and 44 Sena Medals.
He said that over the past four decades, the NSG has transformed itself in line with the evolving security landscape. Regional hubs are now operational in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, with a new hub being set up in Ayodhya. These hubs will significantly reduce response time, enabling the NSG to reach any part of the country within one to one-and-a-half hours during emergencies.
The Home Minister said that nearly 100 per cent of police stations in the country—around 17,741—are connected to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems, making their data available online. ICJS-2 is emerging as a next-generation data-sharing system based on the principle of “One Data–One Entry.” Data from around 22,000 courts, records of approximately 2 crore 20 lakh prisoners through e-Prisons, 2 crore prosecutions through e-Prosecution, 31 lakh forensic samples through e-Forensics, and 1 crore 21 lakh fingerprints through NAFIS are now available digitally. NIDMS will also be integrated into this system, further strengthening the national security grid through Artificial Intelligence-based data analysis.
