New Delhi, June 5: The Supreme Court will on Friday hear a plea by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) seeking approval to conduct the NEET PG 2025 exam on August 3. The exam, initially scheduled for June 15, was postponed after the apex court raised objections to the proposed two-shift format.
The NBE has now approached the court requesting permission to hold the exam in a single shift on the rescheduled date. This follows the court’s earlier concerns that conducting the test in two sessions could result in variation in difficulty levels, potentially disadvantaging some candidates.
During a prior hearing, the Supreme Court emphasized that NEET PG must be conducted uniformly across the country in a single session to ensure fairness and transparency. The bench had directed the NBE to make necessary logistical adjustments and clarified that the Board could approach the court if additional time was needed to implement this directive.
The matter stems from a petition filed by the United Doctors Front, challenging the NBE’s original decision to conduct the postgraduate medical entrance exam in two shifts. The petition argued that such a format would create unequal conditions and compromise merit-based selection.
After issuing a notice and seeking a response from the NBE last week, the Supreme Court is now set to consider the revised proposal for the single-shift examination in the upcoming hearing.
