SRINAGAR, MAY 26: Senior National Conference leader and party spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq has sharply criticized the delay in holding elections for the Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu & Kashmir, urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action in line with democratic principles.

“Over six to seven months have passed, yet the Rajya Sabha elections for Jammu & Kashmir have not been conducted. The people of the region deserve representation in Parliament, and the Election Commission must take cognizance of this delay,” Sadiq said while speaking to reporters.

He also voiced concern over the pending by-elections in Budgam and Nagrota, questioning the inconsistency in the electoral process. “By-elections have been conducted elsewhere in the country. Why are they still pending in Jammu & Kashmir?” he asked.

Addressing recent political speculation, Sadiq reaffirmed the unity and strength of the National Conference. “No one from the party’s Working Committee has left. It is the highest decision-making body in the party and continues to lead with clarity on all issues,” he said.

He reiterated the party’s unwavering stance on key constitutional matters. “Our position on statehood, special status, and constitutional rights remains unchanged. We are committed to the people’s aspirations,” he asserted.

Praising the leadership of NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah, Sadiq highlighted Omar’s active outreach across the Valley. “Whether it’s Gulmarg or Pahalgam, Omar Sahab has remained accessible and focused on public issues,” he added.
