New Delhi: Musicians from across India came together in a rare day-long musical gathering at Jhankar Hall, Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi, to commemorate the third Pandit Bhajan Sopori Day – A Day of Musicians, observed on the Nirvana Divas of the legendary Santoor maestro.
Remembered as the Saint of Santoor and the King of Strings, late Pandit Bhajan Sopori was honoured through continuous musical performances by artists representing diverse traditions of Indian music. Vocalists, instrumentalists and percussionists from multiple generations offered heartfelt tributes, creating an atmosphere of devotion, remembrance and artistic unity.
The event featured performances by noted artists including Ashique Kumar, Ishaan Sharma, Ujjwal Udayakumar, Anjanaye Joshi, Adhiraj Chaudhuri, Pritam Ghoshal, Samyak Parashari, Niloy Ehsan, Vivek Prajapati, Harman Rajwal, Soumendra Goswami, Smit Tewari, Adnan Khan, Ustad Murad Ali and others, along with several accompanying musicians.
The programme, which continued throughout the day, was attended by prominent personalities from the fields of music, dance, media and academia. Members of the Sopori family, including Dr. Aparna Sopori, Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopori, Ragini Rainu, Sohrab Sopori, Soumil Sopori and Soham Sopori, were also present.
Artists and disciples of the Sopori Sufiana Gharana paid floral and musical homage while recalling Pandit Bhajan Sopori’s immense contribution to Indian classical music and his role in elevating the Santoor to global recognition.
Many participants described the gathering as one of the most significant musical congregations witnessed in the Delhi-NCR region in decades. Santoor maestro Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopori expressed gratitude to the artists and attendees, saying their overwhelming participation transformed the occasion into a memorable tribute to the vision and legacy of the legendary musician.
Musicians Pay All-Day Tribute to Pandit Bhajan Sopori
