Srinagar, June 11: Routine air travel to Kashmir is turning into a moment of awe, as passengers flying over Jammu and Kashmir are now being treated to a spectacular aerial view of the newly inaugurated Chenab railway bridge — the tallest railway arch bridge in the world.
The engineering marvel, which connects the Katra and Banihal sections of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) at 359 meters above the riverbed, has become a spectacle that is hard to miss from the skies.
According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Railways, the breathtaking structure is now not just an engineering marvel on the ground but a mid-air attraction, too. Pilots flying commercial aircraft over the region have begun announcing the bridge’s presence to passengers, prompting a surge of interest among fliers eager to glimpse and photograph the iconic steel arch spanning the Chenab River.
“A wave of pride sweeps through the cabin — passengers clap, smile, and share words of admiration for the brilliance of Indian engineering,” the statement said.
Passengers on commercial flights have begun sharing photos and videos of the panoramic view, which unfolds through aircraft windows as they descend or cruise over the region. The sight has sparked a wave of appreciation for India’s engineering achievements, especially among those seeing the iconic structure for the first time from above.
“It was a surreal moment — seeing the Chenab bridge from the sky made me feel an immense sense of pride. It’s not just infrastructure; it’s a symbol of how far we’ve come,” said Suhaib Ahmad Khan, a frequent flyer travelling from Delhi to Srinagar.
Many flyers have described the aerial view as unforgettable, with the bridge’s massive arch cutting through the dramatic mountain landscape.
“Its steel elegance, combined with the natural backdrop of Kashmir’s rugged terrain, makes for a striking visual that few expect during a flight,” posted Muzammil Khan on his Instagram along with the aerial photograph of the bridge.
This bridge has already become an attraction for the people who visit the spot from various states to click the cinematic pictures and videos of the engineering marvel.
