Mega Job Fair: Over 11K youth, 250 companies participate; 32 given offer letters, 4300 shortlisted  

SRINAGAR:  More than 11000 educated unemployed youth turned up at a mega job fair which was attended by 250 top-notch companies.

The job fair was organized by the Labour and Employment Department of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 11000 job seekers registered online. Over 205 companies with more than 7000 vacancies participated in the event.

Around 32 youth were given job offer letters on the spot. Around 4300 candidates were shortlisted for the second round on the basis of eligibility and requirement by the various companies.

 More than 2000 registrations were also made during the event and various candidates were registered for skill development courses.

Rehana Batool, Commissioner, Labour and Employment Department, Jammu and Kashmir said this project is very important for them. “We have been discussing this project for a long time. It has fructified finally. I am so glad to see the crowd. A very good crowd of job seekers,” she said  

She said there are so many vacancies and many top-notch companies have come to participate in the fair. “Some companies have 150 vacancies and some have 200. The process of interviews will start. Everything will happen in digital space. I will say we have achieved a milestone,” she said

Jammu and Kashmir’s government has taken several steps to mitigate the unemployment problem in the union territory.  “Employment generation is the top priority of the government. All the necessary steps would be taken for reducing the Unemployment rate in J&K. We have at our own level made efforts to mitigate the problem. We are at it consistently. Gradually you will see more steps,” Batool said

She further emphasized for holding of more job fairs and the creation of job opportunities by way of self-employment schemes and capacity-building measures.
