SRINAGAR:  Class IV student Tawkeer un NIsa is still at her wit’s end on how to cope up with newly-attained celebrity status. For eight-year-old, calculating complex numbers in seconds has brought back the memories of late Shakuntala Devi, India’s human calculator.

Hailing from the apple-rich town of Sopore, Tawkeer has become a mathematics wizard who can calculate any number in a fraction of seconds.

A video of her brilliance has now gone viral. She can be seen writing in the air to calculate numbers being asked by random people to check her brains. The video has notched 1.8 million views and 84000 likes in just four days on one Facebook page. More than 4800 people have commented on the video.

A student of Aloha, Warpora, Tawkeer has created a record of sorts by reaching the fifth level in mental mathematics at a very young age.

“I want to be a mathematician by training and an IAS officer by profession. This is my aim in life,” she told The Kashmir Monitor.

Coming from an educated family, Tawkeer’s father and mother too are teaching `speed mathematics’ at Aloha. And this was the reason that she developed an interest in mathematics from her kindergarten days.

“We are a small family of four. When I used to visit the center with my parents, I too wanted to solve the numbers. Since I was underage, I could not join. Later I joined the center and now I have been able to clear four levels,” she said.

Unlike other kids, Tawkeer is not afraid of mathematical problems and wants to earn a name in this field. “I love challenges. There are eight levels for kids in Aloha. I have cleared four. I am now in the fifth level. Inshallah, I will clear all the levels soon. There are other levels too, but those are for people above 15 years. I want to clear those levels too,” she said.

A student of Class IV at Prime Public School, Bomai, Zaingeer, she can speak English and other languages fluently. Her eloquence can pale any student of fancy schools in Srinagar.

“Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is my ideal. He is my inspiration. I want to follow the path shown by him. At the same time, I want to work hard to live my dreams. I want to clear civil services and this training in Aloha will help me in achieving my goal,” she said.
