Srinagar: Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier internal intelligence agency.
Dixit is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Telangana cadre and has held several key assignments during his distinguished career in intelligence and security.
Dixit had earlier served as the head of the Intelligence Bureau’s Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Srinagar, where he oversaw intelligence operations across Jammu, Kashmir and Leh.
Officials said he played an important role in monitoring internal security and strengthening intelligence coordination during the period following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
His tenure in Kashmir is understood to have focused on enhancing ground-level intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination and addressing evolving security challenges in the region.
Dixit succeeds the outgoing Intelligence Bureau chief and is expected to assume charge shortly. His appointment comes at a time when internal security and intelligence coordination continue to remain key priorities for the country.
