New Delhi, Apr 11: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, today welcomed Hurriyat affiliate organization Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement’s decision to reject separatism and declaring complete commitment to the unity of Bharat.
In a post on X, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that under the Modi government, the spirit of unity rules Jammu and Kashmir. He said that another Hurriyat affiliate organization, Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, has rejected separatism, declaring complete commitment to the unity of Bharat. He added that he sincerely welcomes their move.
Union Home Minister said that till now, as many as 12 Hurriyat-linked organizations have broken off from secessionism, resting trust in the Constitution of India. He said that this is a victory of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
This announcement comes just two days after three other groups — Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front — formally disassociated themselves from APHC on April 9. The move also follows Shah’s recent visit to Srinagar, where he chaired a review meeting on security and developmental issues alongside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The development coincides with an intensified crackdown by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on individuals linked to separatist activities. Several raids have been conducted across the Valley in recent weeks to collect evidence against such networks.
This is not an isolated incident as similar announcements have been made over the past two weeks. On March 25, the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement (JKDPM) declared their exit from separatism. Two days later, Tehreeq-i-Isteqlal and Tehreek-i-Istiqamat also cut ties with Hurriyat.
Earlier on Thursday, Shah said no one will be allowed to spread terror in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a conversation with a national news channel, Shah said, “We will not let anyone conspire to spread terror in J&K. If anyone tries such things, they will be punished.”
The Union Home Minister maintained that national security is a top priority for the Centre, and its security stance and separatism is firm. “We will not compromise, nor will we allow anyone else to do it,” he added.
Referring to his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said, “Meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was cordial and focused on development and governance. We have always supported regional governments equally, without any bias.”
He reiterated that the Centre is committed to working with J&K’s elected leadership.
Asked whether a recent terror incident in Kathua was caused by Pakistan-backed infiltration, Shah said, “Infiltration is, of course, backed by Pakistan and not someone else like Russia. And this has been happening for years. But our soldiers and the government are both alert. We will punish them if they try.”
Pertinently, the Union Home Minister visited J&K for 3-days earlier this week. He met top government officials, political leaders, and security brass during his visit.
He assessed the current security situation in the Union Territory and devised the future course of action.
Earlier, during security review meeting in Srinagar on April 7, Shah said terrorism has been curbed, but not eliminated completely.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant progress has been achieved in tackling terrorism and ending separatist ideology. Our mission is still not accomplished, because terrorism has been curbed, but it has not been eliminated,” he said.
