Rajouri, May 19:  Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday visited Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri to meet civilians injured in the recent cross-border shelling.

Sharma was accompanied by senior party leaders, including Sham Lal Sharma, Dr. Narinder Singh, R.S. Pathania, and former MLC Vibodh Gupta. The delegation also visited several border villages impacted by the shelling, where they interacted with residents to assess the extent of damage and challenges on the ground.

“We are closely assessing the situation and will prepare a detailed report on the damage incurred. This report will be submitted to the central government to facilitate an appropriate compensation package,” Sharma said during the visit.

To further streamline relief efforts, a four-member committee has been constituted to evaluate the damage to property, livestock, and infrastructure in the affected areas. The committee is expected to submit its findings shortly to speed up the distribution of relief.

The BJP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting border residents and emphasized the need for long-term protective measures to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians living in vulnerable areas.
