Locals torch forces’ vehicle;Two killed in B’la accident

Srinagar, Sep 27: Two persons including a police constable died when the car they were travelling in was hit by a speeding BSF vehicle in Pattan town of Baramulla district last Thursday night.

After a deadly road accident, agitated people chased away the BSF personnel and torched their vehicle.

The incident occurred near Bochu on Srinagar-Baramulla Highway falling in jurisdiction of police post Pothkha, an official told Kashmir News Trust.

The police official said that a heavy five tonner BSF vehicle had a collision with an i-20 private car (JK01AB/9012) on Thursday late evening. Three passengers including the driver on board in the private car sustained grievous injuries. Among the three, two persons including a police constable and a woman died on way to the hospital while another person Farhat Fayaz of Andargam Pattan is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The official identified the slain as police constable Muhammad Shameem (703SPR) son of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, a resident of Sozeith Narbal and Ulfat Altaf of Tappar Pattan.

Shortly after the accident, locals cornered the BSF vehicle and set it on fire. The locals, according to eyewitnesses, chased away the BSF personnel who somehow managed to escape from the spot.

The police official said that they have registered an FIR vide number 137/2019 in this regard and investigation has been set into motion.

Meanwhile, a BSF official claimed that the driver of the BSF vehicle was also injured and has been admitted to a local hospital. (KNT)
