Pahalgam: Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Saturday underscored the critical role of local residents’ cooperation and hospitality in ensuring the smooth conduct of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, appealing to them to extend their support this year as well.
Chairing a meeting with stakeholders and service providers in Pahalgam, Divisional Kashmir said tourist arrivals have resumed in the area and preparations are underway to put in place adequate arrangements for the upcoming pilgrimage.
“The return of tourists to Pahalgam, though accompanied by traffic challenges, reflects a growing footfall. Our visit was aimed at reviewing arrangements and gathering feedback to improve services,” the Divisional Commissioner said.
He said several suggestions received from service providers are being examined for implementation, while various departments are working in coordination and conducting regular reviews ahead of the Yatra.
The response to registration for the pilgrimage has been encouraging, Garg said, adding that stakeholders have stressed the need to align services with the expected influx of pilgrims. The administration, he noted, is focused on ensuring inter-departmental coordination to facilitate pilgrims.
Thanking the residents of Pahalgam, Divisional Kashmir said Kashmir’s tradition of hospitality has played a key role in attracting visitors and pilgrims over the years.
“The people of Pahalgam have always welcomed visitors. Their support and hospitality are vital for both the Yatra and the tourism sector,” he said, appealing to residents to help create a welcoming environment for pilgrims when the Yatra begins in July.
Garg said collective efforts by the administration, service providers, and local residents will ensure the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage across the Valley.
