SRINAGAR, JANUARY 10: Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness fresh snowfall on Saturday, with the Meteorological Department predicting light rain in the plains and snow at isolated higher reaches across both divisions of the region.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department said while light precipitation is likely in specific areas, no significant weather activity is expected until January 18.
The forecast indicates generally dry weather from January 12 to 14, followed by cloudy conditions with chances of light snow at higher altitudes on January 15 and 16. For January 17 and 18, the weather is expected to remain predominantly cloudy.
Meanwhile, cold wave conditions persist across the Valley. Pahalgam recorded a freezing low of minus 10.0°C, while Srinagar, the summer capital, experienced a low of minus 4.3°C. Gulmarg, the renowned ski destination, registered a chilling minus 8.1°C.
Other areas also faced biting cold, with Qazigund recording minus 7.6°C and Kupwara and Kokernag at minus 5.6°C and minus 5.7°C, respectively.
The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of cold wave conditions at isolated locations. Tourists, travelers, and transporters are urged to adhere to administrative and traffic advisories for safety.
