Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today launched a wide-ranging Information, Education & Communication (IEC) campaign by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation under the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, aimed at ensuring a sustainable and zero-waste Amarnath Yatra.

The campaign includes several innovative components such as the official Yatra Logo, Anthem, a dedicated campaign website and MIS portal, the Trinetra mobile app, informational pamphlets and guidelines, Yatra Mascots, and an IEC toolkit. These initiatives are designed to promote sustainable practices, address sanitation challenges, provide verified information, and collect real-time feedback from pilgrims along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. The overarching goal is to achieve a Zero Landfill Yatra.

The official website, www.shriamarnathjiyatra.com, along with the MIS portal, will act as a central repository for all updates, resources, and guidance. A browser-based mobile platform, www.zerowasteyatra.app, will also offer real-time support and information to pilgrims during the journey.

Pamphlets and Yatra Guidelines have been specially created for langar organizers, shopkeepers, and service providers along the route to encourage waste reduction, avoid single-use plastic, and enforce the norms of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G).

The Trinetra App will further enhance the pilgrim experience by offering access to sanitation facilities, safety alerts, and educational content on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene during the yatra.

Director General of Rural Sanitation, Anoo Malhotra, briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the extensive preparations undertaken to make this year’s yatra environmentally responsible. She informed that a total of 5,613 toilets and bathing units have been installed along the two routes—2,920 on the Pahalgam axis and 2,693 on the Baltal axis. Additionally, 7,361 sanitation workers have been deployed to maintain these facilities, supported by 15 Solid Waste Management processing units established across the route.
