LeT militant killed in Handwara gunfight: Police

Srinagar, July 19: Police on Monday said that a militant was killed in a gunfight at Batapora village of Handwara.
“Pursuing credible leads regarding the presence of militants in Batapora village of Magam area in District Handwara, a joint patrol of the security forces today in the afternoon hours launched searches in the area.During the searches, a hiding militant fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated and in the ensuing encounter the militant was successfully eliminated by the joint patrol.No collateral damage was witnessed during the encounter,” police spokesperson said in a statement.
They further said that on the basis of the incriminating materials recovered, the killed militant is learnt to be a foreigner (Pakistani national) and was affiliated to the LeT.
Some arms & ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.
Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
