Kolahoi tragedy: Stranded rescued but bodies yet to retrieved

Srinagar, Sep 9: Nine stranded members of the Kolhoi trekking team on Friday reached Aru village in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district even as bad weather hampered the operation to retrieve the bodies of two trekkers feared dead in the accident on Friday.

Reports said that bad weather hampered the rescue operation.

An official said nine members of the trekking team who were stranded following the accident have reached Aru village in Pahalgam.

Two rescue teams of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports were taking part in the rescue efforts along with the state police, SDRF and other agencies.

Two trekkers – KAS officer Naveed Jeelani and Adil Shah of Alpine group – died in the accident.

“Efforts are on to retrieve their bodies,” said the official.

An injured trekker identified as Hazik Beigh, was airlifted for treatment on Saturday.

Reports said that the trekking team feel into a crevice while descending from the glacier.
