Kidnapped minor girl recovered in Budgam, accused held: Police

Srinagar: Police in Budgam district claimed to have recovered a kidnapped minor girl and arrested the accused person involved in the commission of crime.

A police spokesman in a statement said that on 31-10-2021, Police Station Khansahib received a written complaint from one person stating therein that his minor daughter was kidnapped by one person namely Mohammad Iqbal Shah, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah of Dreygam Khansahib.

“Accordingly, a case under FIR number 237/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Khansahib and investigation was initiated,” police said.

During the course of investigation, a team headed by SHO Police Station Khansahib was constituted to trace and rescue the kidnapped girl, police said

“Acting on specific leads and by utilizing all available means, the team was able to recover the kidnapped girl from Rajouri and also arrest the accused person involved in the commission of crime. The accused has been shifted to PS Khansahib where he remains in custody,” police said.

After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl was handed over to her legal heirs. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.

Meanwhile, swift action by police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. “Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue,” police said
