SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the announcement regarding the reopening of eight tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley, terming it a vital and timely intervention to support the revival of the tourism sector, which has suffered a sharp downturn following the recent tragic attack in the Pahalgam area.

As per the government’s decision, tourist attractions including Betab Valley, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens in Anantnag district, along with public parks in the Pahalgam market area, will now be open to visitors. In Srinagar, Badamwari Garden, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also reopen.

KCCI emphasised that tourism in Kashmir is not only a cultural and environmental asset but also a lifeline for thousands of local families, traders, transporters, hoteliers, artisans, and small businesses. The reopening of these areas is expected to send a strong and positive message to tourists across the country and beyond.

The Chamber had earlier requested both the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister to reopen these sites in order to rebuild public confidence and protect the economic interests of those dependent on tourism. The current decision is seen as a response to those appeals and a recognition of the situation on the ground.

While tourist arrivals have shown modest but consistent signs of recovery in recent weeks, KCCI believes that the reopening of popular tourist locations will further strengthen this positive trend.

The Chamber reaffirmed its support to the administration in promoting sustainable tourism and pledged to continue advocating for the needs of the business and tourism community in the region. It also urged the government to consider reopening more closed destinations to help fully revitalise the industry.
