New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Jammu and Kashmir police to record witnesses’ statements from a visible distance in the Kathua case, reports said.
The top court directed that the probe should happen in presence of their family members, a Delhi based news gathering agency reported.
The decision was taken by the apex court after three witnesses alleged “torture” by the police during the interrogation, the report said.
“The Supreme Court on May 16 heard the matter of three students, witnesses in the Kathua gangrape and murder case, seeking protection from police torture,” stated the report.
In January this year minor girl belonging to Bakerwal community was raped and subsequently murdered in Kathua generating rage across the globe.
A rally was later taken out by Hindu Ekta Manch outfit in support of the accused in which two BJP legislators-Chowdhary Lal Singh and Chandra Prakash Ganga had also participated.
