Kashmiri shawl trader beaten up, robbed in Kolkata

Srinagar, Mar 17: A Kashmiri shawl trader was beaten up and robbed of money by a group of people near Park Circus Station of Sealdah division’s south section in Kolkata, West Bengal, media reports said.
Shakoor Ahmad Shah, a resident of Soibugh village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district was hit on head and attacked with a knife, inflicting injuries to his stomach on Friday night.
The assailants also escaped with his bag containing Rs 1.95 lakh, said a report.
They said that Kolkata police has also filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Ballygunge Railway station. However, no one has been arrested in this connection so far.
Reports quoting Shakoor said that he was attacked by four persons. “When I tried to resist, they attacked me with knife and stole my bag that contained Rs 1,95,000,” Shakoor was quoted as having said.
Reportedly, he was rescued by one of the fellow Kashmiri traders, who could only reach the spot almost an hour later.
This is the second reported assault on a Kashmiri shawl seller in West Bengal. Earlier, Javaid Ahmad Khan of the same village was attacked by a violent mob in the eastern state. A video of the attack had gone viral on social media.
