Kashmir snow: White carpet envelops Gulmarg; MET says wet weather to continue


SRINAGAR: Higher reaches in Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall in the last 24 hours.

Kashmir Weather, a private forecasting portal, said Machil in Kupwara recorded four inches of snow.

A carpet of snow has enveloped the Gulmarg valley much to the delight of the tourists and locals.

Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, said rain and snow may occur in most places of J&K. MET said snowfall will occur over higher reaches on Monday. “No large change expected on Monday,” MET said.

On Tuesday, the weather will be generally cloudy. “Light snow may occur over higher reaches, although chances are less.  From November 9-11, widespread rain/snowfall will occur over higher reaches. There will be an improvement from November 11,” MET said.

 MET  has also warned that snowfall and low temperatures may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Jammu-Srinagar highway, Leh-Manali road, etc

“ Prior to embarking on a journey, Know the status of the road from traffic police to avoid inconveniences. Travelers on major passes are advised to carry sufficient food items, warm shoes, clothes, etc. With them as road conditions remain uncertain during inclement weather,” MET said.
