Kashmir Marathon

The upcoming Kashmir Marathon, scheduled to be held on October 20 next month, is expected to become a landmark event. The marathon, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, has already generated a lot of buzz. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had earlier expressed confidence that this marathon will firmly place Jammu and Kashmir on the global running map and enhance its recognition as a premier tourist destination. Sinha recently emphasised the symbolic importance of the Kashmir Marathon, describing it as more than just a race. “We aspire to make this event a beacon of peace and harmony,” he had stated. The Lt Governor extended a warm invitation to runners from around the world, encouraging them to participate in the Kashmir Marathon. He also highlighted that this event is the latest in a series of world-class events being organised in the region, following the successful F4 racing event in Srinagar, the Sunburn Music Festival in Jammu, and the J&K Tourism Development Conclave recently held in Srinagar. The influx of participants in the upcoming marathon and spectators is likely to boost local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops, contributing to the prosperity of the region. Such events help create a positive image of Jammu and Kashmir, attracting more tourists and investors. Sports events like the Kashmir Marathon have historically served as powerful bridges connecting people from different cultures and languages. The marathon will be more than just a race; it will be an immersive cultural experience. The event will integrate cultural performances, exhibitions, and other activities that showcase the rich heritage of Kashmir. The Kashmir Marathon will also promote eco-friendly tourism. Efforts will be made to ensure that the event promotes sustainable practices that benefit local communities. This focus on eco-friendly tourism aligns with the broader goals of preserving the natural beauty of the region while also boosting economic development. The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has announced substantial cash prizes for the winners of the marathon, adding to the allure of the event. In both the Men’s and Women’s categories of the full marathon, the first-place winners will receive ₹25 lakh each. The second-place finishers will be awarded ₹20 lakh, while the third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers will receive ₹18 lakh, ₹15 lakh, and ₹12 lakh, respectively. Participants in the half marathon will also be eligible for significant cash prizes, with ₹15 lakh for the first-place winners, ₹12 lakh for the second-place finishers, and ₹9 lakh, ₹6 lakh, and ₹3 lakh for the third, fourth, and fifth-place runners, respectively. The excitement surrounding the Kashmir Marathon has been further amplified by a recent video that surfaced on social media, where Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor was seen endorsing the event and encouraging athletes to take part. Kapoor’s endorsement adds a touch of star power to the marathon. As the event draws nearer, the anticipation continues to build, with runners, spectators and cultural enthusiasts from around the world eagerly awaiting what promises to be a thrilling experience.
