JMI faculty becomes first blind Ph.D holder from Rehabilitation University of India

Saurabh Rai, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher’s Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE), Special Education (visual impairment), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has earned the distinction of first blind Ph.D degree holder from the National Rehabilitations University, Lucknow.

Saurabh Rai’s doctoral research is on ‘Support Services for Students with Visually Challenged in Higher Education Institutions in Uttar Pradesh: An Exploratory Study’.

The work brings out the inadequacies that inform the support system created for specially-abled persons in the society more particularly in the context of the university system in Uttar Pradesh. It also makes recommendations for all-round improvement in the existing system.
