Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) on Thursday organised a prestigious literary interaction programme titled “Meet the Eminent Writer” featuring noted Kashmiri poet and academic Prof. Naseem Shafaie at the Seminar Hall of the Academy Complex in Lal-Mandi, Srinagar.
The event was presided over by eminent writer, critic, and academic Prof. Shad Ramzan. Among those present on the presidium were former Head of All India Radio Srinagar Rukhsana Jabeen and Editor (Kashmiri), JKAACL, Jawaid Iqbal Khan.
In his welcome address, Jawaid Iqbal Khan highlighted the importance of such literary engagements, stating that they offer valuable opportunities for students, researchers, and young writers to benefit from the experiences of distinguished literary figures and encourage meaningful engagement with contemporary Kashmiri literature.
Speakers on the occasion reflected on the literary contributions and scholarly achievements of Prof. Naseem Shafaie, noting her distinctive poetic voice and her role in articulating women’s issues, social sensitivities, and cultural values. They also acknowledged her significant contribution to the promotion and enrichment of Kashmiri language and literature.
In her address, Prof. Shafaie spoke about her literary journey, creative process, and the responsibilities of writers in the contemporary era. The session also featured an engaging interaction, with participants raising questions on literature, language, creativity, and current social concerns.
Dr. Imtiyaz Lone presented a detailed paper on Prof. Shafaie’s personality, intellectual depth, and literary contributions, which was widely appreciated by the audience.
In their remarks, Prof. Shad Ramzan and Rukhsana Jabeen emphasised the importance of recognising eminent literary personalities and organising such interactive programmes to strengthen the Kashmiri literary tradition and promote women’s perspectives in literature.
On the occasion, Prof. Naseem Shafaie was honoured with a traditional shawl and presented with a commemorative memento by the Academy.
Among others who shared their views were Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda, Dr. Rafiq Masoodi, Prof. Farooq Fayaz, Prof. Majrooh Rashid, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq, Syed Saaduddin Saadi, Nasir Hamid, Prof. Nasir Mirza, and Mohammad Yousuf Shaheen.
A large number of writers, poets, scholars, and literature enthusiasts attended the programme. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather, Assistant Editor (Kashmiri), while the vote of thanks was presented by Jawaid Iqbal Khan.
