JK to seek adjournment of SC hearing on Aug 31

New Delhi, Aug 29: The government of J&K will seek the adjournment of the August 31 hearing of petitions against Article 35-A in the Supreme Court of India citing ongoing preparations for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal polls.

Advocate Shoeb Alam, the standing Counsel for J&K in the matter, in a letter to Registrar Supreme Court today said:  “The undersigned will be seeking an adjournment in the aforesaid matter on 31-08-2018 on account of the ongoing operations for the upcoming Panchayat/Urban local body elections in the state.”

“The letter may kindly be circulated to the Hon’ble Judges so as to avoid any inconvenience to the them in reading their briefs,” the letter read.

Five petitions demanding scrapping of Article 35-A listed from serial 18 to 18.4 are scheduled to be heard by a three-judge bench on August 31.
