Srinagar, Nov 25:  Criticising the decision of the state government to treat J&K Bank as a public-sector undertaking (PSU), Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday said that the Delhi was now “targeting” the economic institutions of Kashmiris.

“We can’t remain silent of new ploy of Government of India about staking claim on J&K bank which is a people’s institution,” said the Mirwaiz, while addressing Seerat conference at Mirwaiz Manzil on Sunday.

He said Delhi wanted to target Kashmir’s economic institutions.

Mirwaiz urged the people to forge unity on the lines on 2016 mass agitation to fight the move

The Governor’s Administration last night clarified the government had no intention of interfering in the day-to-day affairs of the J&K Bank and the Bank’s functional autonomy with its Board of Directors as supreme decision-making body remains unquestioned and the Bank will continue to be regulated by the RBI.

An official spokesperson said that the latest decision taken by the State Administrative Council (SAC) is only aimed at promoting good governance and transparency in the functioning of the Bank.
