Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly moved a resolution on Monday, condemning the Pahalgam attack on April 22 that left 28 dead and many injured.
The resolution, moved by deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, expressed shock and anguish over the attack that resulted in the loss of lives.
The resolution condemned the act as a direct assault on the values of Kashmiriyat, the Constitution, and the spirit of unity and peace in the region. It expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, offering condolences and support.
The resolution also honoured the sacrifice of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who lost his life while attempting to protect tourists during the attack. It recognised the courage and selflessness shown by Shah and calls it an inspiration for future generations.
The resolution also commended the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their unity and resilience following the attack. It acknowledged the peaceful demonstrations and support shown to the tourists, reaffirming the region’s commitment to peace and harmony.
The House also endorsed the diplomatic measures taken by the Centre in response to the attack and appealed media and society to avoid inflaming passions.
The resolution called for the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students and citizens outside Jammu and Kashmir and urged all states and Union Territories to prevent any harassment or discrimination against them.
The legislators also observed a 2-minute silence to pay homage to the victims of the terror attack.
