Srinagar, Oct 6: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Legislator, Aijaz Ahmad Mir said “harassing” was an attempt by the police “to cover up their failure”.
Days after his Special Police Official (SPO) decamped with seven rifles from his residence, Mir, Member of Legislative Assembly from Wachi, took to twitter to express his “mistreatment” at the hands of police.
Mir tweeted, “Is this policing? How can a Munshi (policeman), of Rajbagh police station, abuse a legislator in front of dozens of other policemen? And then went on levelling serious allegations, accusations against his family as well.”
Talking to The Kashmir Monitor, Mir said the SPO ferrying the weapons from Srinagar to Shopian was a question mark on the security arrangement in place.
“I am ready for any type of investigation, but how can they treat me like this? They (police) are trying to cover their failures, as they are equally answerable. With these tactics, they are just diverting attention from over the core issue,” he said.
Mir said the “harassment” has “disturbed” him.
“Their behaviour has not been good to me, which panicked me. I feel very dejected and disturbed now,” he added.
He said that his books, laptop and iPad were in police custody for the last one week.
“It has been eight days now and they haven’t returned it yet. My workers from Shopian are facing immense problems as my phones have been taken away by the police,” he said.
Soon after Mir’s tweet, PDP also condemned the police’s behaviour.
Police has already set up a special investigation team to probe the incident.
