Srinagar, April 11: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains open for two-way traffic for passenger vehicles, while heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) are allowed only from Jammu towards Srinagar. However, the Mughal Road and several other key routes remain closed due to weather-related issues.

According to Traffic Police officials, commuters on the highway are urged to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking to prevent congestion. Travelers are also advised to move during daylight hours and avoid unnecessary halts, particularly between Ramban and Banihal.

The highway is being closely monitored at Mehad, Cafeteria Morh, and Ramban due to the risk of landslides and shooting stones.

Meanwhile, several alternate routes remain shut:

  • Mughal Road: Closed as per District Magistrate Poonch’s order dated January 18, 2025, due to snow accumulation.
  • Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road
  • Bhaderwah-Chamba Road
  • Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road: Closed under Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kokernag’s advisory dated January 16, 2025.

Subject to favorable weather and clearance from the BRO, only one-way traffic with anti-skid chains for LMVs and HMVs will be allowed from Srinagar to Kargil on the SSG road, with movement restricted to Sonamarg up to a specific cut-off time.

Security forces have also been advised to adhere to traffic advisories, especially on the narrow stretch between Nashree and Banihal, to avoid traffic congestion.
