Jammu, June 11: Scorching temperatures swept across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, with the Jammu region experiencing record-breaking heat, severely affecting daily life.
Jammu city sizzled at 44.4°C — the hottest day of the season — registering 5.6°C above normal, while other parts of the region also witnessed alarming spikes. Banihal recorded 33.6°C (+5.2°C), Batote 33.3°C (+5.5°C), Bhaderwah 33.4°C (+3.6°C), and Katra 40.6°C (+4.9°C).
Even Kashmir division felt the heat, with Srinagar, the summer capital, recording 33.5°C — significantly above normal levels.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that the heatwave will persist for the next four days. Authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay indoors during peak hours (12–4 PM), stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
