Srinagar, Nov 22: Historic Jamia Masjid here in old Srinagar city is still out of bounds for people as authorities didn’t allow Friday congregational prayers for the 16th consecutive week.

Uncertainty continues to prevail in the valley since August 5 when government of India abrogated Article 370 and divided J&K into two union territories.

For the past 16 Fridays, authorities have not allowed devotees to offer Friday prayers in the historic mosque.

Eyewitnesses said that forces personnel were deployed in large numbers around Jamia Masjid and nobody was allowed to enter into the premises of the Masjid. Skeletal movement of transport was observed on roads in Nowhatta area where this historic mosque is located.

Witnesses added that shops and other business establishments remained shut in old city particularly around this mosque while some streets and lanes were sealed to thwart protests.
