New Delhi, Sep 14: Incarcerated Kashmiriseparatist leader, Shabir Shah, Friday fainted during an ongoing trial which was conducted via video conferencing from Tihar jail.

Shah, who heads Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), while appearing in the trial conducted by a court here, lost consciousness for a few minutes, family sources told The Kashmir Monitor.

Shah’s wife, Dr Bilquees Shah, who, later in the day, was briefly allowed to meet her husband, said his health had deteriorated a lot.

“He was not even able to stand on his legs. The jail authorities are not providing him the basic medical care. For three months we have been requesting for his health checkup. But authorities in Tihar have not done anything,” she said.

Shah, as per reports, is suffering from serious life-threatening ailments including diabetes mellitus, hypertension and heart blocks for which he may require angiography followed by angioplasty.

“But authorities are playing with his life and not providing him any health care. They are now saying that they will go for the checkup in October,” she said.

Shah was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in July last year in connection with over a decade-old alleged money laundering case against him.
