Ghaziabad : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the Centre has prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure “zero human casualty” during heat waves across the country in the coming years.
Speaking after presenting the President’s Colour to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at its 8th battalion campus in Ghaziabad, Shah said the government’s disaster management approach is now focused on being “proactive” rather than “reactive.”
He said the vision of the government is to achieve “zero casualty and minimum property damage” during natural disasters such as heat waves, floods, cyclones and earthquakes. Shah added that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already devised a strategy to tackle the growing challenge of extreme heat conditions in India.
The Home Minister also praised the NDRF for earning the trust and admiration of people through its rescue and relief operations in India and abroad. The force was awarded the prestigious President’s Colour in its 20th year of establishment for its exceptional service in disaster response.
Highlighting the impact of climate change, Shah urged disaster management agencies to strengthen preparedness, improve early warning systems and enhance coordination among central and state authorities. He reiterated that India has emerged as a global leader in disaster management and first-response operations during calamities.
