Srinagar: India has been listed as the fourth most spammed country in the world.
Spam is a type of unwanted call that occurs when a person or company calls an extremely large number of people at once. Often, these calls are identified and labelled with a spam risk label. Most people have suffered through the experience of being pummelled with dozens of annoying and unwanted spam calls that interrupt their day.
According to the latest report released by Truecaller, India ranks fourth on the list of top countries in the world which were affected by spam calls in 2021.
The report said the large percentage of spam calls (93.5 %) came through sales or tele-marketing calls.
“Over 202 million spam calls were made by just one spammer in India this year. If you break it down, then it is 6,64,000 calls every day and 27,000 calls every hour of every day,” it said.
Truecaller has launched its fifth edition of the annual Global Spam Report – a detailed, global study on how spam and scam affects all of us. The report, like the previous years, lists the Top 20 Countries Affected by Spam Calls in 2021.
With the people navigating through the ongoing pandemic and countries going into a second round of lockdown, this year’s report has shown that not only has the pandemic affected communication behaviour but also spam patterns around the world.
