The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS), Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, University of Kashmir, has launched a one-year postgraduate diploma program in Addiction Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling.
Only a limited number of institutes in India currently offer specialized courses in the field of addiction and rehabilitation, making this initiative a significant step forward in addressing the region’s growing mental health needs. This is the first full-time academic program of its kind in J&K UT.
The diploma program is designed to address the acute shortage of trained professionals in addiction services. The region, like much of the country, is facing increasing cases of substance use disorders.
