JAMMU, FEBRUARY 24: Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, today chaired the conclave of Imams and Khateebs of the Board in Jammu. This congregation was organized in connection with the upcoming month of Ramzan.

Prominent Imams and Khateebs of Jammu were present at the conclave, including Mufti Anyatullah Qasmi, Mufti Tabraiz Ahmad, Mufti Manzoor Ahmad, Molvi Mushtaq Ahmad, Molvi Rafiqi, Maulana Ubaidullah Tahir, Maulana Rashid Bashir, Maulana Nazakat Ali, Maulana Javed Mohammad, and Mufti Farooq Ahmad. Detailed deliberations were held regarding special prayers and Ramzan arrangements. Waqf Board officers were also part of the meeting.

Dr. Andrabi appealed to religious preachers to desist from sectarian remarks and focus on spiritual teachings and the significance of Ramzan during their regular addresses and interactive speeches in mosques and shrines.

“The holy month of Ramzan shows us the path of righteousness and sacrifice, which helps in the spiritual and moral growth of individuals and society. The Imams and Khateebs have to be responsible and cautious while addressing from the pulpits so that a harmonious, peaceful, and serene atmosphere prevails at places of worship at all costs,” said Andrabi.

She expressed concern over the use of divisive and derogatory language by some individuals in places of worship, followed by the uploading of such content on social media, calling it dangerous for society. Taking serious note of such actions, Dr. Darakhshan emphasized the need for a collective effort to counter these divisive moves.

“Religious preachers have a great responsibility to raise their voices collectively against such rude, uneducated, and irresponsible preachers who are creating divisions within our society,” said the Waqf Board Chairperson.
