IGP Kashmir Reviews Eid, Amarnath Yatra Security

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V.K. Birdi on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess preparedness for Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the annual Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
The meeting reviewed security and logistical arrangements for the upcoming festivities and pilgrimage, with participation from senior police, traffic, CID, SDRF and security officials from across the Kashmir Valley.
During the meeting, district SSP’s presented detailed plans regarding security deployment, traffic regulation, crowd management and other logistical measures for Eid celebrations and the Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Emphasising robust crowd management at mosques and major congregation points, the IGP directed officers to ensure proper regulation of entry and exit points, adequate deployment of security personnel and enhanced public safety measures to prevent overcrowding.
He also instructed field officers to intensify surveillance, conduct random checks at vulnerable locations and increase patrolling to counter any potential security threats during the festive period.
Reviewing arrangements for the Amarnath Ji Yatra, Birdi stressed coordinated planning and preparedness for the safety of pilgrims. He directed deployment of Anti-Sabotage teams along Yatra routes and called for enhanced surveillance and threat detection through advanced technologies and real-time monitoring on both pilgrimage routes.
The IGP also highlighted the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), inter-agency coordination and robust contingency planning to effectively tackle unforeseen challenges during the pilgrimage.
The meeting concluded with officials reaffirming their commitment to ensuring safety and security for residents, devotees and visitors during Eid celebrations and the annual Yatra.
