‘Highest for a day’: Record 415 COVID-19 deaths in Japan

Just like China, Japan too is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Japan on Wednesday recorded 415 COVID-19 deaths, the highest-ever count for a single day, health ministry data has revealed.

Tokyo confirmed 20,243 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, dropping by 943 from a week before.

Twenty-three deaths linked to COVID-19 were newly reported in the capital, while the number of severely ill patients fell by two from the previous day to 47.

The seven-day average of new cases in Tokyo came to 17,288.6, up 5.9% from a week earlier.

Meanwhile, Oita Prefecture reported 3,041 infections Wednesday, a record high.

On Tuesday, 208,248 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed across Japan, an increase of about 18,000 from a week earlier.
