Jammu: Heavy rains and high-velocity winds lashed Jammu on Wednesday evening, causing widespread damage, particularly to the power infrastructure across the district and its adjoining areas.
The storm struck around 7:40 PM, leading to an immediate disruption in electricity supply. Several electric poles, tin structures, billboards, and trees were uprooted, damaging vehicles in multiple areas. The worst-hit localities included Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Canal Road, and parts of Jammu’s outskirts.
The downpour, which followed the windstorm, added to the chaos. A section of the Civil Secretariat wall near Dogra Hall collapsed, damaging a few parked vehicles. In Bagh-e-Bahu, a mobile tower also came crashing down.
Power Development Department (PDD) officials confirmed that restoration work is underway. “The actual damage will be clear after a complete assessment,” an official stated.
