Srinagar, June 12: Kashmir continued to sizzle on Thursday, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.
The MeT has predicted mainly dry and hot weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days, with a possibility of isolated rain or thunderstorms in some areas.
Several areas on Thursday recorded daytime temperatures 5°C to 7°C above normal.
Srinagar registered a scorching 34.2°C, which is 6.2°C above normal, while Qazigund in south Kashmir witnessed 33.9°C, a sharp 7.2°C above average.
The popular tourist destination Pahalgam wasn’t spared either, recording 29.0°C, 5.3°C above normal.
In other parts of the valley, the border area of Kupwara touched 33.0°C (+4.8°C), Kokernag reached 33.2°C (+7.0°C), and even the usually cool Gulmarg saw a high of 24.8°C, which is 6.0°C above normal.
The minimum night temperatures were recorded 1°C to 5°C above normal, while in the Jammu division, they were even higher, ranging between 3°C to 6°C above normal.
The persistently warm nights have added to the discomfort caused by soaring daytime temperatures.
According to the MeT forecast, J&K will continue to experience generally hot and dry conditions until June 13, with a brief respite expected between June 14 and 17, when isolated to scattered places may witness light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. The weather is expected to revert to hot and dry from June 18 to 20.
