Gulmarg: Winter sports called off after mercury soars

Srinagar: Tourism department has called off winter sports activities in Gulmarg after a sharp increase in temperature. 

As per an order by the Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg, winter sports activities including skiing and snowboarding have been closed inside the marked boundary and slopes of Apharwat for the season 2021-22.

“All concerned are informed through the medium of this order that no ski, patrol,  rescue will be available in the above-said area after March 31, 2022,” it said. 

The order said that a violator shall be responsible for his safety. 

“Any skier foreigner, domestic or local skiing in the above-mentioned area shall be skiing on his sole responsibility and no department shall be responsible for any kind of injury or loss of life. Besides members of ski patrol team and associated staff shall report to their respective departments,” it said. 

Gulmarg has become the epicenter of winter sports in India. Thousands of people participate in winter games every year. 

Under Khelo India, the administration held various championships this year to lure adventure-loving to the highest skiing altitude.
