Hyderabad: Google has launched Search Live, a new feature that enables real-time voice conversations within the Google app on Android and iOS. Currently available in the U.S. for users enrolled in the AI Mode experiment through Google Labs, the feature allows for natural, back-and-forth spoken interactions with Google Search, while surfacing helpful web links.
Designed for convenience during multitasking—like when you’re packing for a trip—Search Live lets users ask casual voice queries, such as: “How do I stop a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?” Google responds with an AI-generated audio answer and offers relevant follow-up options like, “What should I do if it still wrinkles?” On-screen, web results are also displayed for deeper browsing.
What makes Search Live unique is its ability to function in the background, allowing conversations to continue even while other apps are in use. Users can access a transcript of responses, type follow-up questions, and review previous chats in the AI Mode history.
Powered by a custom version of Google’s Gemini AI model, the feature is built on top of Search’s existing reliability and information quality systems. It uses a query fan-out approach to pull from a wide variety of online content, making results more diverse and contextually rich.
To try Search Live, users need to enable AI Mode in Labs, after which a “Live” button will appear below the search bar. Google is actively seeking user feedback to refine the experience.
Looking ahead, Google plans to enhance Search Live by adding support for camera input—allowing users to show Search what they’re seeing for even more dynamic, real-world interactions.
