Google Photos is getting a major AI-powered upgrade, letting users transform old pictures into animated videos and stylized artworks. Used by over 1.5 billion people globally, the app now includes tools like photo-to-video animation and AI-driven “Remix” styles.
The photo-to-video feature, based on Google’s Veo 2 model, generates six-second video clips with subtle movements. Meanwhile, the Remix tool—powered by Google’s Imagen model—lets users convert photos into anime, 3D, and other art styles, complete with SynthID watermarks.
These tools are rolling out first in the US on Android and iOS. A new “Create” tab in the app will host the features, with more experimental options on the way. Google says user feedback will shape future updates.
