Google has started rolling out the beta version of Android 16 featuring its vibrant new user interface, according to 9to5Google. The update, part of the QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release) beta, introduces Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language, bringing refreshed visuals to the launcher, notifications, lock screen, and a redesigned quick settings page reminiscent of Apple’s iOS.
QPR updates typically pack more features than routine monthly patches, and this particular release is no exception. While Android 16’s full release is on the horizon, the QPR1 beta offers an early look at the design overhaul expected to launch officially this fall.
Pixel users—from Pixel 6 through Pixel 9A—enrolled in the Android Beta Program can access the new beta immediately. However, those currently on Android 16’s beta and wishing to wait for the stable release are advised to opt out via the Android Beta site and avoid installing the update to prevent data loss.
For new users interested in experiencing Android 16’s refreshed design early, Google has shared sign-up instructions on Reddit.
