Gemini App for Android Gets Privacy Mode and Smarter

Google is rolling out two major updates to its Gemini AI app on Android — personalised responses and Temporary Chats.

Personalised responses let Gemini draw from past conversations to tailor answers to a user’s preferences. It’s an extension of the AI’s memory capabilities, meaning if you’ve chatted before about your favourite comic book, Gemini might later suggest a themed birthday party complete with matching food and props. This feature is limited to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model for now and isn’t yet available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the UK, though Google says more regions and the 2.5 Flash model are next in line.

Temporary Chats bring a privacy-first mode similar to what ChatGPT already offers. In this mode, Gemini won’t use the conversation to train its AI or to feed into personalised responses. The data stays on Google’s servers for up to 72 hours — just long enough to respond and process feedback — before being deleted.

Google hasn’t confirmed whether these features are coming to the web version, but the Android rollout is expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.
